Artificial Intelligence Shaping the Future of Home Care

By Stephen Tweed You’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Artificial Intelligence, and if you are like me, you are wondering what this means to the future of home care.   To begin with, let’s get a basic definition of Artificial Intelligence.   Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer, or a robot controlled by a computer to do tasks that are usually done by humans because they require human intelligence and discernment. It is the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. Perhaps you have tested out AI with some of the new online applications such as ChatGPT which is available as a free or paid tool from OpenAI, a research lab and deployment company.  We have been using this tool to help draft blog posts, craft emails to members, and develop drafts of educational programs.  How is AI being used in Home Care? You’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Artificial Intelligence, and if you are like me, you are wondering what this means to the future of home care.

To get a better sense of how AI is currently being used in Home Care, we talked with our friends at Recourse Partner AxisCare.  Todd Allen and his team at AxisCare have been working behind the scenes to learn more about ways to use this new technology to help home care leaders.  Here are some of the ways AI is being used in Home Care are:

  • Automating Repetitive Tasks
  • Streamlining Operations
  • Speeding up Sales & Marketing
  • Analyzing Client Data to identify patterns
  • Predicting Potential Health Risks in clients
  • Measuring Caregiver Satisfaction

Using Intelligent Algorithms

AxisCare is using a part of AI called Intelligent Algorithms to measure and improve caregiver satisfaction. One area this technology can make an impact is caregiver retention. One of the most prevalent obstacles in the home care industry is the caregiver shortage. Caregiver shortage often hinders agency growth and is also expected to worsen. We have been actively researching and implementing solutions to help agencies retain the caregivers they already have. In April, we released a new functionality within our home health care software that measures caregiver satisfaction at key stages in their journey with a home care agency. This valuable feature allows you to gain insights into the satisfaction levels of your caregivers, enabling you to proactively address their needs and concerns. By leveraging machine learning algorithms, we are also working on predicting the likelihood of caregiver turnover.
