One of the ways to create distinction in your local marketplace, and gain competitive advantage
is to create specialty programs for your clients. These specialty programs are often focused on
caring for clients with specific disease states. A number of our members at the Home Care CEO
Forum have worked to create specialty programs to serve clients with Parkinson’s Disease,
Stroke, or Alzheimer’s. Of all the diseases affecting older adults, Alzheimer’s is the most
common.

Build a Better Alzheimer’s Program with AlzBetter

To help you build your specialty program for serving clients with Alzheimer’s Disease, we have
partnered with a company called AlzBetter which has developed a process for Home Care
Companies to care for clients with Alzheimer’s. Gary Skole, the CEO of AlzBetter is also a
partner in Home Care company Home To Stay, based in Cherry Hill, NJ. Gary and his business
partner, Andrew Dubler, have applied their expertise in caring for Alzheimer’s clients in their own
home care company.

Developing an Operating System for Alzheimer’s Care

In the meantime, they have also developed a finely tuned process for caring for clients with
Alzheimer’s. Gary wrote a recent Blog about how you can develop systems and to improve
your process for caring for clients with Alzheimer’s and develop your people to master these
processes. In his article, Gary presented six components of a Disease Management Operating System:

  1. Education for Care Partners
  2. Individualized, Patient-Centered Assessments and Care Plans
  3. Support for Professional Staff:
  4. Systematic Approach to Care Delivery
  5. Activities for Individuals Living with Dementia
  6. Marketing Material for Healthcare Business

Create Distinction with Disease Management

If you want to clearly separate your home care company from competitors in your local
marketplace, one of the most effective ways to do that is with a specialized disease
management program. To learn more about this, read Gary’s full article here.
